New Year

Wash over me
Waves come crashing, rains come falling down
New waters, refreshing
Drought is ending

The thirsty can drink
No need to thirst anymore
Be renewed in this
Be revived in this

Spring up oh well
Can you feel it?
In your heart, you’re overflowing
What you thought was dry is drenched

Can you see death in the land around you?
Because all I see is teaming with green
This land is alive, well, and free
It has not let you down yet

Welcome to a new year
A new life
Be refreshed
This drought is ending

Reborn

Fire fills her soul
Dragon’s breath warming her coals
Heating up her dry bones
Breathing out sparks of gold
She’ll never taste a word

Fruition is what she craves
Failing to remember that planted seeds need time to grow
Her fire has burned up all the weeds
Waiting till new growth springs
Leaves on trees

Everywhere she turns her eyes see green
Remembering promises from a land away
Throwing away who she was on the ground where she used to lay
Running full speed toward the newest game to play

She fell to the floor, broken
Skinned her knees
But those scars are gone now
If only she’ll leave them be

She is fire, water, earth, and air
Elements born from every memory
Find her in the sea
Feel her permanent heat
Know the ground beneath your feet
Don’t forget to breathe

Mystical, unreal
Dragons are only mind’s conception
Yet she’ll stand before you
Reborn

In Motion

Even the smallest motion causes movement in still water
Ripples that can become waves
So it’s okay if we keep still
As living creatures, even keeping still is not completely still
There is motion in life
Even the stillest life

We make waves by breathing
Change atmospheres by stepping into the room
Perspectives morph with every spoken thought
So please, never stop thinking

They say the beat of a butterfly’s wings can cause a hurricane
You may not see the storms you cause
But storms are where the truth is revealed
Rain brings life
Life in motion

Intersection

Intersection
Heaven touches earth
And the light is green

Walking in fear of the next step
Yet you take it
Come so far out
Walking on water
Afraid of drowning
Though he’s taught you to swim

Anyway he’s taken you
Out into the unknown
Out of the wilderness
Can you see the promised land?

Bask in this
No longer suffocating
Fresh
Fresh start
Refreshed
Renewed
Again

Intersection
Heaven touches earth
Standing in the center of it all
Can you feel it?

It washes over you
Every time you close your eyes
Give up your life
This is what trust is

Nothing is familiar
Bathe in the unfamiliar
You belong here
You belong here
You belong here

In the intersection
Where heaven touches earth
The light is green
And you’ve stepped forward

Heavy

Heavy
That’s what it is
Something deep within this soul
That doesn’t want to wake up yet

It feels like revival
In this room
Ready to break this heaviness
But with a fear that they’ll see
This brokenness within

Hidden is the easiest way to go on
Yet he never promised easy
He promised dreams coming to life
Fruition and adventure
There’s no turning back now

You’ve walked on the water
Now quit looking at your feet
Or you’ll only see that you are sinking
You’re not sinking
This is only the beginning
Are you ready to make a life here?

Flow

In her persecution she loses herself
Forgetting all that made her sanctuary
All that kept her pure
For something that could never keep her here

Desperate for recognition
Searching for love in too many places
Using and being used until there is nothing left
She is dried up

A river bed
Crying out for its stream
A trickle of distant past
Can she remember?

She once flowed freely
Never expecting to be captured
Bottled up
With no clue as to what is actually being held

Yet she’ll hold on
Not sure how she plans on letting go
Though her waterfall escape is inevitable
She’ll remember herself again

The World is Not Going to End

The world is not going to end
Not today
Not when we expect it to
It is not dying
Simply maturing

We look at her
Our earth
And see depravity
Decay
Then search for someone to blame it on

But she is not our play thing
We complain that she is broken
When she doesn’t do the things we want her to

There’s not enough water here
It’s too cold there
She sent another hurricane
Searching for sun
Instead of enjoying the rain

We forget it’s not her job
To keep us alive
Mother nature is not our mother
Animals  move on or die
While we complain at doomed survival

Our world is strong
She can restore herself
If we would just stop
Destroying her

In our efforts to kill her
To tame her
To control  her
We are only killing ourselves

The world is not going to end
Not today
Not the way we expect her to
She doesn’t need our help surviving
So why do we try to save her?
